Tilt-shift photography

Metropolis magazine has a nice write up this month on Olivo Barbieri. Olivo's aerial photographs are shot from a helicopter using a tilt-shift lens. The resulting images are distorted to the point of looking almost artificial.

The technique is similar to the large format results popularized by young Finnish photographer Miklos Gaal and German-born Marc Raeder.
