Best online photography magazines
The subjective nature of this list make it useful only as a starting point, so let me know if I missed anyone! The only requirements for a site to make the list were that they had to be submission driven and non-print.
- Lens Culture How does photography affect the way we learn, think, feel, and interact in the moment? Mostly documentary, this ongoing project encourages contemplation with an engaged mind.
- Ball-Saal A growing collection of photos from 50 mainly European photographers. The site publishes a new gallery every month along with a blog and hosts a moderated forum for its members.
- FILE FILE magazine collects photos that treat subjects in unexpected ways or reinterpret traditional genres. I like the wide variety of submissions, particularly the high-speed photography by Andrew Davidhazy.
- Mooncruise* Monthly updates feature the work of about 20 new photographers set to original music. Best site navigation on this list.
- f-stop This bimonthly online publication always involves a theme or concept. Submit your photos by Feb 15 to be considered for the next issue. Upcoming theme will be HOME.
- AK47 Both fine art and documentary photographers are represented in this bimonthly magazine out of Cape Town. Now in it's ninth issue, check out Jesse Chehak's series of portraits taken during road trips through the Midwest.
- Seesaw Chicago artist Brian Ulrich is featured in the outstanding fourth issue. Last updated autumn 2005, I hope there's more where this came from.
