Back to school
I had been hired by a client to photograph students at their campus for their new marketing piece. It's basically a university that doesn't have any images that reflect students on their campus and it was an opportunity to do images that were both typical, and conservative to the extreme of off the wall, uber creative. The graphic design company wanted a variety so that they could take the images to a focus group which would decide the look and the overall image of the university. I would approach various students for their brochure and then would go back to photograph certain individuals who I thought were just really comfortable and natural in front of a camera for stock shots. I really like the exuberant nature of young adults, they have their eyes completely open to the future and are excited by what is to come. I guess I just look for a genuine connection of the subject to me as the photographer, which I always try to obtain from any subject that I photograph. It's important for me that the model trusts me and that we just have a good time making images.
