A. General

1. What is RP versus RF?

Rights-Protected (RP) images are one-year licenses granted to use an image for a specific purpose. Royalty-Free (RF) images are non-exclusive licenses with no expiration.

2. How do I sign in? Change my profile? What if I've forgotten my password?

To sign in, just go to the log in page. To change your profile, go to "account information" and click on "change profile." If you've forgotten your password, click on "account information" and click "forgot password" on the left.

B. Searching for Images

1. Can I search without being registered?

Yes, you may search and view previews without registering. However, you must register when you are ready to create a lightbox or add an image to the shopping cart.

2. How do I download free comps?

From search results or lightbox click the preview icon and your comping image will appear on the next page. To save this image on a Mac, click-and-hold anywhere on the image to view saving options. If you are using Windows right-click on the image for saving options.

3. Can I get a nonwatermarked comp?

Unfortunately, we cannot offer nonwatermarked comps online at this time. If you cannot do without a non-watermarked comp, please email us at info@luckypix.com or call us at (773) 235-2000.

4. How do I get detailed information about an image?

On the search results page or in the lightbox, just click a thumbnail or click the "+" icon underneath the thumbnail. That will give you a larger version of the photo along with the corresponding information.

5. What are lightboxes and how do I use them? Is there a limit to the number of images I can have in a lightbox? Number of lightboxes I can have? Can I email a lightbox?

Think of your lightboxes like folders; you create a lightbox to organize images into a folder. You can organize lightboxes any way you wish - by job, type of photo, etc. You are allowed up to five lightboxes with an unlimited number of images in each lightbox.

You can email a lightbox to anyone very easily. Just go to "lightboxes" on the top navigation and click "email lightbox" underneath.

6. Can I get a research assistant if I can't find an image I'm looking for?

Of course. Just call us at (773) 235-2000 or email us at info@luckypix.com and tell us what you need. We'll try to find what you're looking for.

C. Buying Images

1. Do I need to register to purchase? How do I register?

Yes, you must register in order to purchase photos. All you need to do is go to the registration page and fill in the necessary information.

2. How safe is it to use my credit card online?

We use the latest encryption technology to help ensure that your information is kept safe while in transit. You can read about security in our Privacy Policy.

3. How do I determine image prices?

There are two ways to calculate prices. First, you may click calculate on any image preview screen. That will pop-up a pricing calculator. See below for specifics on using the pricing calculator.

Second, you can calculate price by clicking the 'shopping cart' icon underneath the thumbnail to add the image to your order. If you are ready to check out, choose "Take me to shopping cart." You may also continue searching if you wish. If it's a rights-protected image, click 'Calculate Price' to the right of the image and the price calculator will appear in a pop-up window. If it's a royalty-free image, a dropdown menu will appear next to the thumbnail to select the file size/resolution you need.

4. How do I use the pricing calculator?

Usage: First you must choose the general usage for the image, whether it will be used for advertising, corporate, consumer product or editorial work.

Media: Second, choose the media in which the image will be used. This is a more specific categorization of how you will use the image.

Region: Choose whether the image will be used locally, regionally or nationally. You must also provide the name of the location where it will be used if you wish to use if locally or regionally.

Image size: Choose the image size in relation to your final work. This is not necessarily the size of the final. For example, if you're creating a full-page newspaper ad and the image will take up 1/4 of that ad, then you should choose '1/4 page'. If you are running a 1/2-page ad but your image will take up the whole ad, then you should choose 'full page'.

Placement: Choose where the image will appear in a printed or electronic publication.

Circ./Press Run/Locations: If you're producing a printed piece, this should be the total number of copies that will be printed. If the image will appear in a newspaper or magazine, this should be the circulation of one edition of the periodical. When licensing print advertising uses for placement in multiple publications, the average circulation per insertion should be used.

Length of License: Choose the length of time of a particular license. Length of license specifies how long the licensed reproductions of an image will be in circulation. For example, a brochure that will be sent to a different group of people every month for a year has a duration of one year.

Start Date: Choose the date on which you wish the image license to begin.

Industry: Please choose the industry in which the photograph will appear.

End Client: Please type the name of the client for which this photo is being used.

Insertions/ Uses: This is the total number of editions of a newspaper or magazine your piece will appear in. For example, if you are going to run an ad in a magazine every month for 5 months, your total insertions would be 5, so you'd choose 5 total insertions. If you plan to run an ad for 3 months in each of 4 monthly publications, your total insertions would be 3 x 4, or 12, so you'd choose 12 total insertions.

Exclusive Use: If you want exclusive use by region or industry (or both) choose from the dropdown menu. Please note that by choosing exclusive use you will be adding to the cost of an image.

Description: Please enter a brief description of the usage of the photo.

5. How do I get to terms with LuckyPix so I can be billed instead of using a credit card?

D. Downloading Images

1. Where do I go to download an image I've already purchased?

Please go to your receipt to re-download an image you've already purchased.

2. Will I be charged again for re-downloading an image I just purchased?

No, you will not be charged if it is for the same usage within the licensed period. New usages or re-use after the licensed period cannot be re-downloaded.

3. How can I print out a past sales order?

Go to the Home Page and click Account Information...Order History.

4. How do I save an image to my computer?

From search results or lightbox click the preview icon and your comping image will appear on the next page. To save this image on a Mac, click-and-hold anywhere on the image to view saving options. If you are using Windows right-click on the image for saving options.

5. How long does it take to download an image?

Download times are variable -- depending on the size of the file, the speed of your connection, and the state of the internet at that moment.

6. Why are images in RGB format instead of CMYK?

Images from LuckyPix are meant to be as versatile as possible for you. When an RGB image is converted to CMYK, several parameters must be taken into consideration, including paper stock, four-color film output device, layout software programs used, types of inks used, and special effects intended by you, the designer. Therefore, we give you the control in deciding exactly how your images are converted to CMYK.

7. Why do you deliver files in JPG format?

We deliver JPGs simply to save on download time and file sizes. You can convert your files to TIFs after downloading. If you must have a TIF, email us at info@luckypix.com or call us at (773) 235-2000 to make arrangements.
